<aside> 💡 Heesoo Cho is a PhD candidate in the Department of Science Studies at Seoul National University, Korea. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Biology from Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology and a Master’s degree in the History and Philosophy of Science from Seoul National University. Her Master’s thesis, titled “Institutionalizing Ultrasonography, Transforming Pregnancy: Dissemination of Prenatal Ultrasonography in Korean Obstetrics, 1960s-1990s,” explored the historical development and impact of prenatal ultrasonography to Korean women’s pregnancy experience.

Currently, Heesoo’s doctoral research, titled “Gendered Formation and Practice of the Korean Mass Vaccination Program for Children, 1950s-2000s(working title)” focuses on the gendered formation of child vaccination in modern Korea, examining the interactions and hierarchies among various actors, including masculine governmental healthcare policies and doctors in power, female medical workers(nurses, medical practitioners, etc.), and non-medical actors such as mothers. She views this research as a critical reflection on South Korea's gendered healthcare system,

Heesoo is also engaged in other projects, such as:

  1. Exploring the roles of women (doctors, nurses, medical practitioners, pregnant women, etc.) in the history of medicine.
  2. Investigating the production, development, and approval of vaccines in contemporary South Korea. </aside>
