Heesoo Cho is a PhD candidate in the Department of Science Studies at Seoul National University, Korea. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology and a Master’s degree in the History and Philosophy of Science from Seoul National University. Her Master’s thesis, Institutionalizing Ultrasonography, Transforming Pregnancy: Dissemination of Prenatal Ultrasonography in Korean Obstetrics, 1960s–1990s, examined the historical development and impact of prenatal ultrasonography on women’s pregnancy experiences in Korea.

Her doctoral research, Formation and Practice of the Korean Mass Vaccination Program, 1950s–2000s (working title), investigates the mass vaccination program as a site of negotiation among doctors, nurses, female medical workers, and mothers, highlighting the interactions and hierarchies that shaped its implementation. She also explores the production, development, and approval of vaccines in contemporary South Korea.

She is also engaged in projects exploring the roles of women—doctors, nurses, medical practitioners, and pregnant women—in the history of medicine.
